Our Rules

Rules of Play - how we play the game at Active+, substitutions, goalkeeper role, restricted areas and play, footwear and tackling.

Please note: Teams play each other twice. 2 back to back games against same team.

  1. For 5 a side leagues each team may field four outfield players and a goalkeeper on the pitch at any one time (for 6 a side add one outfield player, for 7 a side add two outfield players).
  2. Substitutions are unlimited during the game, can only be made when the ball is dead and only with the Referees consent. Outgoing substitutes must leave the field of play before the replacement enters the playing area. The oncoming players are active immediately and can receive the ball. Substitutes must stand outside the pitch perimeter and spectators must not enter the field of play under any circumstances.
  3. Goalkeepers can change as many times as they like when the game is stopped, with the referees consent.
  4. No screw in studded footwear or blades are permitted to be worn by any player. Only training shoes, moulded soles and astro boots may be worn. All Players must wear shin pads. The wearing of any form of jewellery (including, without limitation, watches) is not permitted during play. Referees may refuse to allow players to play with inappropriate footwear, without shin pads and/or are wearing any form of jewellery.
  5. The match will consist of one 40 minute game.
  6. The first half will begin with one team taking a centre; the second half will begin with the other team taking a centre. After a goal has been scored the game will be re-started by the team who conceded the goal taking a centre.
  7. Only Goalkeepers allowed in the small area.
  8. An outfield player gaining or seeking to gain an advantage by entering his own goal area will have a penalty kick awarded against his team.
  9. An outfield player entering his opponent’s penalty area will be penalised. The game will be re-started from the goalkeeper.
  10. Goalkeepers ARE allowed out of their area.
  11. Over arm throws are allowed, the ball must bounce in their defensive half (in direct free kick on the edge of the goalkeeper’s box).
  12. Overhead height is allowed.
  13. The ball cam be played with the head.
  14. If the ball goes out of play off the goalkeeper, the game will be restarted by indirect free kick by the same goalkeeper. Kick ins & corners apply.
  15. Goalkeepers can score, all goals by any player can only be scored in attacking half. Failure to do this will result in opposition goalkeepers’ ball and no goal. Own goals from anywhere count. If the shot deflects it counts as a goal.
  16. No slide tackles are allowed. Infringement of this rule will lead to a free kick being awarded against the offending players’ team.
  17. Professional fouls will be penalised with a penalty and the guilty player may face disciplinary action.
  18. Referees will signal in-direct free kicks.
  19. Opposition players must be at least two meters from where any free-kick is taken. If opposing players do not retreat the required two meters the kick may be moved forward one meter. If a free kick is awarded on or near the goal area it will be moved up to two meters backwards to allow defenders to be two meters from the ball.
  20. The goalkeeper must be on the goal line when a penalty is being taken. No limit for steps on penalties.
  21. These League rules are not exhaustive and may be added to or amended at any time.
  22. The Referees decision on all on-field matters is final and no discussions will be entered into either on or off the field with him about any decision. The Referees jurisdiction on disciplinary matters will apply until players have entered the changing rooms. Players repeatedly disputing decisions may have further disciplinary action taken against them.
  23. Teams with a valid complaint against a match official must put their compaint in writing within 48 hours of the match taking place. The complaint should be addressed to Active+ General Manager.

Disciplinary Rules - what is and isn’t allowed and what punishments are given, abandonment, suspension and decisions.

  1. Players may be sent to the ‘sin bin’ at the referee’s discretion depending on the offence. The duration of the sin bin will be ? mins for which a blue card will be shown. A player may only be sin binned once per game as a second offence would involve a second blue card which would automatically be followed by a red card and a sending off. Blue card = 2 minute sin bin, & Red card = sending off and possible suspension with Active+ pro soccer’s consent.
  2. A player sent off for a second offence will be suspended for a minimum of ? week. In the case serious foul play, foul or abusive language the suspension will be extended to ? weeks or longer should Goals deem this necessary.
  3. If a player is given a red card whilst off the field of play (for unacceptable conduct on the side-line), the team must correspondingly reduce the number of players on the field.
  4. If a team is permanently reduced by 2 players, or temporarily reduced by 3 players the game will end. The match will be awarded ?-0 to their opponents and they will be deducted ? points. If the score at the time produces a goal difference greater than ?-0 then that score will stand.
  5. match abandonment results in 5-0 win for opposition (if less than current score).
  6. Violent conduct on or off the pitch will result in the immediate suspension of the individual and could result in a ban. Active+/Pro Soccer reserve the right to ban an individual or team from further participation in all competitions.
  7. Referees must be treated with respect from all teams. Teams found guilty of abusing Referees will be removed from the Leagues, as will Teams in material or persistent breach of these Rules.
  8. The decision of Active+/Pro Soccer management in all matters pertaining to the discipline of the league is final.
  9. Active+/Pro Soccer management may overturn any rule if they feel a team is deliberately using an interpretation of the rules to gain an unfair advantage.

Centre Rules - How the Leagues and Cup Competitions work, promotion, points, player/squad numbers, non appearance/refusal to play

  1. Seasons can last between 15-19 weeks including cup competitions
  2. Promotion and Relegation will be included. (Active+ pro soccer’s decision is final)
  3. No player registrations, just a team registration. We don’t have team sheets for prior to the game.
  4. Team captains must sign to confirm for their fixture next week.
  5. Teams must be ready for the signed kick off time, if a team is 10 mins or late the opposition will start 3-0 ahead, refs’ consent
  6. This is a list of rules that we had printed out to give to teams at one stage.
  7. 5 a side maximum of 8 players squads per game.
  8. All players must wear shin pads/ moulded studs or trainers.
  9. Roll on/off subs when ball is dead. (referee consent)
  10. Two 20 minute games (10min per half).
  11. Blue card = 2minute sin bin. Red card = sent off + suspension.
  12. Football is allowed overhead height. (Indoor top of the net – in direct free kick awarded)
  13. Hits the boards play carries on, hits the netting the ball is out of play.
  14. Attacking player to remain in the opposition half at all times. (Failure to do this results in a penalty kick.)
  15. Players not allowed in small area (penalty if so), goalkeepers are allowed out.
  16. All throw ins are played as a kick in.
  17. Penalties (No step limit) Goalkeeper must be on their line
  18. Goalkeeper must throw the ball out when dead. (e.g. goal kick) with it bouncing before the halfway line. (failure results in in-direct free kick).
  19. 3 points awarded for a win, 1 point draw and 0 points for a defeat.
  20. Teams may be replaced during a season and either start on 0 points or take over an existing team.
  21. Seasons run weekly and teams will play each other at least twice.
  22. Cup competitions will be linked to the seasons and teams are entered into this.
  23. Teams must pay before their fixture, and be on the pitch to kick off at the appropriate kick off time. Failure to do this can result in score penalties or match forfeits.
  24. Refusal to play (complete) games or failure to attend (when confirmed) results in points deductions.
  25. If a team gets three or more players sent off the game will be forfeited opposition team will receive the points.
  26. Referees/staff must be respected at all times and the decision of the management team is final.
  27. Active+ Pro Soccer reserves the right to overturn any rule at any time.
